Thanksgiving
Today, I see the gift...
the struggle, challenge, heartbreak
and the intimacy
that is family...
the undeniable bonds
the unspoken agreements,
the interdependency,
the certainty of blood.
The aspects of myself
in a lifelong mirror...
these are the wisdom of family.
Will I stop blaming
long enough to listen?
Today I opened the container
of family,
poured out the contents
and found me inside.
Frightened and rusty
and a little unsure
I mustered the courage
to look up and grin.
"This is all of my own making"
I remembered.
And so, the first crack appeared
in the looking glass...
